How to keep your duvet clean and fresh?

Duvets are a great choice for a comfortable and healthy sleep. They are light, fluffy and provide excellent thermal insulation. However, to maintain these properties, duvets require special care and regular maintenance.

Here are some practical tips for maintaining and washing your duvet cover:

  • Shake and air out the duvet regularly. The best time to do this is in the morning when the air is clean and fresh and the sun is not aggressive.
  • Store the duvet in its original packaging in a dry and ventilated place when not in use.
  • The duvet should be washed every 1-2 years and, to keep it in good condition, the instructions on the label should be followed.

You don't have to take your duvet to the dry cleaners. You can achieve excellent results by washing it at home, as long as you follow the label instructions carefully and some basic rules described below:

  • Do not use chlorine-based detergents. They will irreversibly damage the filling.
  • Use a neutral laundry detergent specifically designed for down products.
  • Wash at 30°, maximum 40°.
  • Set a programme for washing delicate clothes.
  • Use a short spin cycle of up to 800 revolutions.
  • Dry in a tumble dryer at low degrees or outdoors.
  • After washing, shake the duvet without twisting it to restore its shape.
  • Do not expose to direct heat sources (radiators, etc.).

How do you store the duvet after the season is over?

Down is a breathable matter and, therefore, the duvet should be stored in a dry and ventilated place. It is advisable to place the duvet in its original cotton wrapping. Never use plastic packaging for storage!

Mistakes not to make

  • Never use carpet beaters or vacuum cleaners. These tools are incompatible with the delicacy of down.
  • Do not clutter the duvet with other duvets. If not ventilated, the duvet loses its characteristics.
  • Don't do extra stitching on the quilt: the best solution for how to sew is the manufacturer's original suggestion.
